"Everything counts in large amounts"
Mandy put her head back and rolled it around her shoulders, humming Depeche Mode as it floated through the smoky, incense filled air in her room. She hadn't done this in a while, "this" being lighting candles, burning incense, and playing music that reminded her of old friends. She thought back to the days of high school, wearing black, gothy clothes, sneering at the cheerleaders, dismissing the smiles she saw on others but couldn't convince herself or her friends that she needed. Those days, for better or for worse, were past her, and she sat in her room, alone, staring at the fractal patterns on her screen as she smiled in post dated defiance. College had afforded he the opportunity to completely change herself; she still saw her friends, but she didn't have to follow them like she felt she used to. She still had all her black clothes, but the 3 years since high school had seen her closet become more diverse, with blues, greens, and the occasional white garment poking through. Still enjoyed her goth days, a velvet dress and dark eyeliner made her feel different in the cookie cutter school she was attending. She sat up and opened her eyes to the yellow and orange spirals on her screen, and watched as the incense smoke trailed in front of it, slightly obscuring her view. She breathed in deeply, taking in the sandalwood smoke, closing her eyes and relaxing her muscles and she let herself sink into her plush, red chair.
